- The office of Superintendent Mark Johnson says 3,200 iPads, some collecting dust in a Raleigh textbook warehouse for the past year, have finally – FINALLY – been delivered to educators around the state.
- Johnson, never missing a photo-op, has been posing with teachers across the state delivering iPads to schools in yet another act of self-promotion.
- Johnson appeared to skirt state law last year with the massive purchase of 24,000 iPads at a cost to taxpayers of $6 MILLION. State law clearly says local school districts are to be provided funding to decide the specific technology device that is best for their teachers and students. The purchase was also not put out for competitive bid.
- Turns out, Johnson and influential Republican state lawmakers were wined & dined by Apple execs seven months before the extraordinary iPad purchase. The bill for transportation, lodging, and meals cost $5,300.
- As for the latest iPad delivery, the tablets given to high school math teachers were originally justified as a tool to help teach reading in grades kindergarten thru 3rd grade.
