North Carolina Needs Fair & Independent Judges who will Protect our Personal Freedoms
North Carolinians understand the power of state courts, especially when it comes to protecting our personal freedoms and ensuring our right to make medical and reproductive decisions.
But right now, our fundamental rights are under assault. Judge Jefferson Griffin is a current member of North Carolina’s Court of Appeals, and supports an extreme legal theory that resulted in state bans on IVF and total abortion bans with NO exceptions.
Now, he wants to take this extreme theory to North Carolina’s Supreme Court, but you can help stop him. Tell Judge Griffin that North Carolinians deserve better.
- Griffin is an ardent supporter of an extreme right-wing judicial philosophy that limits personal freedoms including to abortion, contraception, and says we have no right to personal privacy.
- Griffin signed onto an opinion that said life begins at conception. That is the same law that they have in Alabama that put access to birth control and fertility treatments like IVF in danger.
- Griffin’s legal role models – Newby and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thomas – have been accused of ethically questionable behavior and many conflicts of interest, such as ruling on cases that benefited them and their friends financially and politically.
- Griffin would join Newby’s team on the state Supreme Court that includes Justice Phil Berger, Jr., the son of the state Senate’s powerful leader Phil Berger, Sr. Justice Berger routinely rules on cases that directly benefit his father, such as approving gerrymandered legislative maps that gave his father a supermajority and approving his father’s chronic underfunding of public schools in the Leandro case.
North Carolinians understand the power of the courts, especially when it comes to protecting personal freedoms and ensuring free and fair elections. You can help stop Jefferson Griffin from joining Justice Newby’s team. North Carolinians of all backgrounds need to demand that our judicial system be free of politics and judges will rule impartially.
